Announcer Competition

Veteran Virginia racecaller Will O’Keefe.

Temple Gwathmey Steeplechase Foundation seeks to expand the announcer pool

With a mission to promote and grow the sport, the Temple Gwathmey Steeplechase Foundation is launching a contest to discover aspiring racecallers to be part of the talent pool for future jump racing seasons.

While veteran racecaller Will O’Keefe does not plan to retire anytime soon, he believes it is a good time to begin grooming and mentoring a replacement.

TGSF is seeking podcasts or recordings from candidates that highlight their race calling skills. Candidates may use any race of their choosing, mute the original audio, and replace it with their own vocals in the recording.

The winning candidate will be offered a paid race-calling position, and the opportunity to provide color commentary for the day. As responsibilities increase, so will pay.

The candidates who finish second and third will receive a cash prize from the TGSF.

We’re open to a duo of race callers if you would like to submit an entry as a team.

The ideal candidate would live in the Mid-Atlantic region, given the location of a majority of our steeplechase meets.

Please submit your entry to: anorman@tgsteeplechasefoundation.org by Friday May 7th. Please contact us if you need assistance finding a race to call (the NSA Video Archives are a good place to look).
